El Segundo Homes for Sale

About El Segundo

Located on the Santa Monica Bay, El Segundo was incorporated as a town in 1917.  It is also one of the Beach Cities of Los Angeles County with a population in 2007 of 16,526 people.  It was once a part of Rancho Sausal Redondo which was owned by Sir Robert Burnett, a Baron from Scotland.  Ultimately, a man named Peck developed the land around the area, specifically in El Porto, now known as North Manhattan Beach.  El Segundo is bordered on the north and south by the Los Angeles International Airport and Manhattan Beach.

In 2006, El Segundo won an Eddy award which is given to cities considered to being the most business-friendly.  Though office towers are not common in this town, the city is presently moving from being a blue-collar company town to a "corporate town" where the tax base relies on a non-resident population.  Among the businesses located in El Segundo are Mattel, The DirectTV Group, Teledyne Controls, Computer Sciences Corporation, International Rectifier, Raytheon, Boeing Northrop Grumman, Chevron, and Source Interlink Media, which publishes the magazines Hot Rod, Motor Trend, and others.

Students who live west of Sepulveda Blvd attend schools in the El Segundo Unified School District.  There are no residential neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city.  In this school district the average class size in 23 students per teacher.  In 2005, Standards and Poor's listed the El Segundo Unified School District as one of California's 29 academic outperformers.
