Redondo Beach Homes for Sale

About Redondo Beach

Redondo Beach, CA is located in the coastal edge of Los Angeles County, 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. In fact, The Los Angeles International Airport is just seven miles to the north. The population of Redondo Beach is presently just over 63,200.

Redondo Beach began as an trade center for oil and lumber, but by the late 1890s, it had become a mecca for tourists.  The Hotel Redondo opened that year as "the place" for tourists.  The town of Redondo Beach was incorporated just two years later.

For more than a century, Redondo Beach held an appeal to vacationers as a preferred resort destination as well as being a highly desirable area to live. Early in its history the Hotel Redondo offered lush landscaping around its 18-hole golf course and tennis courts and had 225 luxurious rooms to offer guests. These rooms were expensive, so if the visitors preferred they could rent a tent at the nearby Tent City for $10 per month.  That was a bargain since this price included wooden floors and electric lights!

Redondo, CA is renown for its amenities such as police, fire, and public works departments.  It also features fifteen parks, a performing arts center, two public libraries, a bathing and surfing beach, as well as a 1,500-slip private craft port, and of course, the Redondo Beach Pier and Seaside Lagoon for water sports and fishing, plus much more.

The climate of Redondo Beach is mild during the summer and cool in the winters.  The average summer temperature ranges in the 60s, although in August, the daily highs may reach 80+ degrees.  The average winter temperatures tend to fall into the 50s, but in December they may fall briefly into the 40s.  Yearly average rainfall is just over 13 inches, primarily falling in January.

The Redondo Beach Unified School District provides public education for Redondo Beach residents.  Within the system are 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools.  Additionally, there are two alternative education facilities, one adult education and one child development center.  The mission of the Redondo Beach Unified School District is "to provide every student the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a global society, today and in the future."
