Torrance, CA is located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Though it has 1.5 miles of attractive beach coastline, it is less well-known for its beaches than others in the area like Redondo Beach to the north, or Palos Verdes Estates to the south. In 2009, the population of Torrance reached 148,111 and became the 8th largest city in Los Angeles County. Robinson Helicopters are also designed and built in Torrance, as are Garrett Turbochargers which are used in automobile engines produced worldwide. Other large employers are Honeywell Aerospace and Exxon Mobile Oil Corporation. Torrance hosts many events and activities for its residents and visitors. Among them are holiday events, youth and adult sports league events.
